Qvain is a research dataset metadata creation tool. Metadata are crucial in implementing FAIR principles – findability, accessibility, interoperability, and re-usability.
Qvain is one of the components of Fairdata Services. Their purpose is to make it possible to manage, preserve and disseminate research data and their metadata in an appropriate manner.
Qvain is available for faculty, staff, and students of Finnish universities and research institutions. Users must have appropriate credentials for login from their organization.
Each organization that has access to Fairdata Services shall have a contact person. In the case of Qvain, the contact person is a superuser who may manage all metadata created by members of the respective organization. This may be necessary, for example, if the metadata creator cannot be reached when it should be urgently edited or withdrawn.
When a description created is Qvain is complete, they will be transferred to Metax, the Research Data Metadata Resource, and become thus publicly available in Etsin, the Research Data Finder. All APIs for harvesting and reuse of descriptions are provided by Metax and Etsin.
Qvain implements Metax Research Dataset Data Model (https://tietomallit.suomi.fi/model/mrd/). It can implement other data models subject to specific agreement.
