Applying for an increase to the organisation’s IDA quota

This page describes how an organisation that has the right to use the Fairdata IDA service can apply for an increase for the organisation’s IDA quota. CSC (the provider of Fairdata services) increases an organisation’s IDA quota upon request, based on applications submitted by the organisation. CSC processes these applications under the authorisation of the service owner, the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The conditions for approval include:

  • A significant portion of the organisation’s current quota is already used for storing data.
  • The organisation’s projects are using the service in accordance with the terms of use (including e.g. the requirement to describe and publish data).

CSC may reject an application if the overall service capacity is temporarily insufficient.

Instructions for applying

Organisations can apply for an increased quota by sending an application by email to fairdata@csc.fi, following the instructions below. It is recommended that the organisation estimates its needs for at least the next 6 months when submitting the application.

The application should include the following information:

  • The organisation’s current IDA quota (in TB)
  • How much IDA quota has been allocated to projects, and how much of that allocated quota is currently used
  • The requested new total quota (in TB)
  • Justification for the additional capacity need

The organisation’s designated IDA contact person may request usage data needed for the application by contacting fairdata@csc.fi and view them from MyCSC.

Application processing

CSC will make a decision on the application within one month of receiving it (excluding holiday periods). CSC may decline to increase the quota if there are projects within the organisation that do not comply with the service’s terms of use, or if the overall storage capacity is temporarily full.

Organisations may temporarily exceed their quota, but in such cases they must contact CSC (fairdata@csc.fi) to resolve the situation. This helps avoid cases where the processing time of the application would prevent end users from accessing the service.
