A new admin user functionality will be introduced in Qvain later this spring. Its purpose is to make it easier for organisations to support their researchers and other staff in dataset description and research data management.
With the admin user role, organisations can designate their own experts with extended rights to view and support dataset descriptions created within their organisation. This helps streamline guidance, improve the quality of dataset metadata, and support organisation-specific practices, for example in matters related to long-term preservation.
What does this mean for Qvain users?
- An organisation must be selected for each dataset description, defining which organisation holds the admin user rights
- Organisational admin users will be able to assist with dataset descriptions and review them from their organisation’s perspective. Admin users will have editing rights to all dataset descriptions in Qvain within their organization.
- The researcher’s workflow will not change significantly, but support will be more clearly structured and easier to access
The organisation selection is already visible in Qvain
Although the admin user functionality will be officially introduced in late March, the option to select an organisation is already visible in Qvain as part of the dataset description form. Making this selection now will help ensure a smooth transition once the functionality is fully enabled.
